I am Mark Johansen an artist and painter working and living in the Chelmsford in the UK. I have been working as an artist of some years now since a dramatic change in my personal circumstances which left me with my children and no job… however this only proved to be a new beginning changing all the past held beliefs and transforming my life.

I would describe my work as being mostly abstract and expressive in nature l almost exclusively paint in oils on canvas as the lustre, texture and versatility is for me unparalleled but occasionally I explore mixed-media or other surfaces to experiment with.
My preferred palette is often of earthy colours, reds, yellows and blues. I am fascinated by the contradictions both in life and the act of painting. My influences in art would be such artists as Pall Klee, Picasso, Cézanne and Mark Rothcoe.

I know that their is a better painting trapped inside me I just got to find the way to let it out! To let it come alive upon the canvas, develop and grow before me and with that I can change the world and the lives of those it might touch.

Painting is like touching the sky while feeling the earth below my feet. It is an elating feeling that drives me forward.
